Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
And I don't necessarily want to order freeze-dried brands from storage-food companies because cans of coffee from those companies will be a lot more expensive than just buying regular steel-sealed, vacuum-packed cans of coffee at the grocery store, but about the only brand I can still find that doesn't have those thin foil-wrap seals but is actually vacuum-sealed inside a steel can with a steel lid is Cafe Bustelo (a brand which I really like). I'd like to be able to find other brands as well if they can be easily obtained at a decent price. I'm paying about $3.25 for a 10-oz. can of Bustelo at local stores, and I have what I'm calculating to be a 5-month supply at the moment. (I'm going through roughly a can a week, so do the math.) Any suggestions on other brands?

Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
I don't know about your question, but there have been threads on GIM about buying coffee beans raw by the sack and roasting as you go.
That would be a good option for someone who drinks a lot of coffee. |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
$6.99 for a large can of Folger's, when it's on sale. 2-3 pounds. the cans are sealed plastic.
probably cheaper at Costco. maybe they have "sealed in steel" coffee for a decent price ? |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
I've been on the same quest. Last year a local building supplier had a pallet of Hills Bros. brand on sale, that had the metal top. A few weeks ago I needed to restock but every brand I looked at had the vacuum packed lid.
http://www.hillsbros.com/store-locator.aspx btw - according to their website the shelf life of vacuum packed canned coffee is 2 years. |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
The vacuum cans of coffee are almost a thing of the past, I managed to find some off brand stuff last year but it all seems to have disappeared since then.
I just vacuum seal it in mason jars. |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
COSTCO still sells 3 lb vacuum sealed cans. Current price ia $9.89 per can. Good coffe, both Regular and Decafe

Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
Don't give a fig about the coffee...
But the STEEL CONTAINERS ARE BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST... I use them to soak gun parts in for long periods of time... I CAN and have used glass, but I'm such a klutz I've found the steel coffee cans are perfect especially if they still have the plastic top -they don't break if knocked off my bench - yeah, still a mess to clean up, but no broken glass. You've given us several places to purchase. And I will just empty the coffee into individual glass jars so it's not like I'm going to throw it out. But we don't drink coffee, so... |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
What I wish I could find is unroasted coffee beans sealed in #10 cans. I suppose I could just vacuum seal raw beans, though.

I find it difficult to believe that the plastic containers adequately block oxygen from ruining the taste of coffee over time, compared to steel cans. I'm sure that they're cheaper, though! |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
There's plenty of brands available in the steel can, what the OP was referring to was the top of the can not being metal (like a soup can) but being a round piece of tinfoil glued on and then vacuumed. (can of pringles)

we buy the kirkland (costco) brand steel can foil lid whats wrong with the foil lid? BTW How long will Roasted coffee beans last in a vacuum sealed mason jar? |

The vacuum seal on a foil lid is much easier to compromise, but you have to try pretty darn hard to accidentally break the vacuum seal on a steel can. Not sure about roasted coffee beans in a mason jar, but as long as it still has caffeine to support my 4-pot-a-day coffee habit, I'm happy. |
Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
4 pots a day!?!?
wow maybe you should buy 25 pounds bags...lol |

Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
this is not the cheapest- but maybe it's worth it for some people. I spose it depends if GREEN coffee tastes a lot better than regular coffee or NOT! ( I don't drink coffee because I don't like the taste at all and it does not fit in with my diet. ) I have to imagine this stuff is a bit higher quality than costco / walmart / etc, but it's all just coffee to me.

Re: Looking for coffee brands in steel-sealed cans
Those steel cans come in handy. I took a closer look at one I had in the kitchen -
"Hills Brothers", 39 ounces. 2 # 7 ounces. |
